The Board of Trustees recognizes that formal written evaluations are an essential management practice and that such evaluations should be conducted annually.
The director will conduct evaluations of all staff members. Evaluations will be completed by March 31 each year. Evaluations shall be written.
Evaluation of the director shall be conducted by the chairperson of the Board of Trustees, the personnel chairperson, and the treasurer. The evaluation will be presented to the full board at the March meeting. The director may make comments about the evaluation before signing.
Evaluations should be positive in tone, developmental in intent, and should include both commendations and recommendations for possible areas of improvement.
The Board of Trustees further recognizes that the library director interprets policies to the staff and carries out the policies and programs approved by the board. It is therefore incumbent upon the director to hire, direct, instruct, and evaluate the library staff as necessary.
The above processes should strive toward a team effort, with the proper channels for instruction and complaints insisted upon. Discussion of the evaluation may be initiated by either party.
In the event of a disagreement of dispute regarding an evaluation, an employee may appeal to the board for resolution of the matter.
