The Children's Department
The Children's Department serves young patrons from birth to twelve years of age.  The collection includes books for all ages, magazines, DVDs, videos, books-on-CD and cassettes, music CDs, family literacy kits, toys, puzzles, and much more.

The library staff is eager to speak with you about your child's reading interests and can help with book selection.  In addition to the children's collection, there is a parenting collection to support the information needs of parents and professionals in the many aspects of child rearing and literacy.

Story times for toddlers and preschoolers feature age-appropriate stories, songs, fingerplays and crafts.  Story time series are held several times each year, and parents must register their children with the library staff.  Drop-in story times include the family story time held the first Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m.  Families sit together while a guest reader or the librarian reads books and offers fingerplays or songs. Families are encouraged to bring a favorite book to share with other participants. Guest readers are welcome.

Story times are also offered as part of the summer reading program, and families are welcome to drop-in after registering for the summer program.

Special events are held from time to time for the enjoyment of children and their families.  These programs include puppet shows, magicians, science demonstrations, concerts, films, and guest authors and illustrators.

Many parents generously offer their assistance with children's programs, and it is much appreciated!
