Summer Reading Program

Each year the library joins other libraries through the country in offering a Summer Reading Program to enrich children and their families with a love of reading and related cultural activities.  It has been demonstrated by research that children retain what they learn during the school year when it is reinforced with summer literacy activities.

Last year's theme "Go Green @ Your Library" was a huge hit in Mattapoisett, where concern for the environment and interest in recycling is high.  We plan to build on this theme for summer 2011 with many more fun events, crafts, stories and entertainment.

Children of all ages and their families are welcome to participate. Certain programs require registration so watch for early dates to sign up for your favorite activities.

Suggestions for crafts and programs are always welcome. If you would like to volunteer your time in some way, large or small, please speak with Linda Burke, the children's librarian.  Our volunteers add to the richness and variety of our programs.  You may reach the children's staff at 508-758-4171, or stop in to say hello!
