Second Cup of Coffee Job Club
Changing Careers or Looking for a Job?
The Job Club meets the last Wednesday of each month from September to June from 10 to 11:30 am in the library's meeting room. Whether you are looking for employment, thinking of changing careers, or are planning a next chapter of your "retirement," this high energy group can help. Facilitated by former HR professional Marcella Nelson, topics have included developing and fine tuning your resume, how to make use of LinkedIn and other social media sites, interview strategies, and much more. Speakers have added to discussions on entrepreneurship and how to use the One-stop Career Centers. Some previous discussions included detailed work on setting up a LinkedIn page and how to use it effectively, with John Theriault. LinkedIn is a powerful and frquently used online networking resource.
The group also previewed optimalresume.com, a terrific web tool for job seekers and employers both. Optimalresume.com is the third most searched database for employment, according to the federal government. Using this web tool will help individuals develop a resume, cover letter and skills sheet. It is also possible to practice interviewing and see sample video resumes. Optimalresume links to a jobs database. Mattapoisett residents can log on with their SAILS library card for access. Call the library at 508-758-4171 if you need assistance logging on.
Bring your questions and your Rolodex to jumpstart your search. Everyone is welcome, and no question is too small (or too large)!
